You may choose to identify specific, concrete goals or opt to take a more insight-oriented journey into self-discovery and healing. Your goals may change during the course of therapy, and your therapist will be right there with you to help decide where to go next.
Our Commitment to LGBTQIA+ Affirming and Sex Positive Care in Santa Fe, NM
The Center for Growth is committed to gender, sexual and relationship diversity. Our individual and couples therapists are experienced and comfortable working with people of all genders, sexual orientations, and relationship styles. We know that if you’re a member of one (or more) of these communities, you may be looking for a therapist who specializes in certain areas, and we are experienced with BDSM, kink, consensual non-monogamy, asexuality, and trans and non-binary identities. As sex therapists, our sex therapy training has provided us with the tools needed to work with the full spectrum of orientations and genders to increase your sexual health, functioning and pleasure. We also recognize that sometimes sexual orientations, relationship orientation and identities are not the issue you’re seeking to address—after all, we all experience bereavement, job-related stress, empty-nest syndrome and more. Thus we also have specialized training in couples therapy, trauma therapy, grief therapy, anxiety therapy, depression therapy, shame therapy, counseling for life transitions, navigating concerns of emerging adulthood, coming to terms with dysfunction in your family of origin, finding your voice in the world and building healthy relationships. The Center for Growth is above all an integrative practice, and we seek to address questions of gender, sexuality and relationship orientation just as much or as little as feels right to you.
As sex positive therapists with specialization in sex therapy, we also welcome our “vanilla” clients to speak openly about sexuality as part of your psychotherapy. It is OK to talk about sex even if you’re primarily seeking couples therapy, trauma therapy, grief therapy, anxiety therapy, depression therapy, shame therapy, counseling for life transitions, navigating concerns of emerging adulthood, coming to terms with dysfunction in your family of origin, finding your voice in the world and building healthy relationships. We believe in everyone’s right to safe and pleasurable sex life and we know that sexuality is interwoven into all aspects of a person—mind, body, and heart. We find that there are too few spaces in life where folks feel comfortable talking about how sex is showing up in their life, and we hope to provide a safe environment for exploration and empowerment when it comes to sexuality.

Why We Don’t Take Insurance
Because we do not work directly with insurance, we are able to provide personalized care that centers you rather than the demands of the healthcare industry. We have intentionally decided to opt out of the medical model that frames therapy as a service limited to “sick” people, requiring a diagnosis of mental illness. By working outside of insurance, we are also able to guarantee a greater degree of confidentiality, as no records will be shared with your insurance company without an explicit request from you. This can protect you from possible premium hikes based on a “pre-existing condition” that could be attributed to any mental health diagnosis.
That said, we understand that costs are real, and we are happy to provide a record of services upon request that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. All of our therapists are educated, supervised and licensed in accordance with state and federal standards of mental health care, and thus eligible for most insurance plans’ out-of-network reimbursements. We also provide some helpful tips on questions to ask your insurance company if you are considering reimbursement.
We encourage clients to connect with their insurance companies if they are interested in reimbursement, and hope to empower our clients to make the best choice for them. In cases where you would like to send records to your insurance company, you and your therapist can discuss the information provided to the insurance company (including diagnosis, which an insurance company will require).
